Ok, we may not have seen it on our own accounts yet, but we saw the downloadsquad article on digg, osnews covered it, and even slashdot has a story.  But why would they do this and why now?  The argument that people won’t visit Gmail because of this is crap.  Google’s had POP access forever meaning you wouldn’t need to visit the site.  I don’t think it’s hurting their numbers by any means.  Why then would they do it?  I want to feel all warm and fuzzy about google just doing good things, but they are a corporation who, by definition, needs to pursue profit.  I quickly remembered reading about a Google phone possibility.

Aww..  I see.  Anyone who uses email on their mobile device knows that POP access sucks and to really utilize the goal of “dealing with” email, IMAP is a necessity.  That said, I wonder when we’ll be able to buy a Google phone?
